Waking from the dream

Touchy, funny, quirky or cogent, it's the Quote of the Week:

There’s a Movement emerging on Planet Earth, new ways of living which will take us beyond the crises of our age into a world that works for all. Our work is helping to build the movement of awake, committed, engaged people, an invitation we extend to everyone. Who we can be, and what we can do at this point in history has never been so significant, or so much fun.

Awakening the Dreamer Symposium Trailer from Pachamama Alliance on Vimeo.

Awakening the Dreamer is about the urgent need to take action to save ourselves and the beautiful planet that is our home. More, it is about awakening to the miracle that is millions of people all over the world taking action, each in her or his unique way. This short video gives you a taste of what we face and the opportunity and privilege we have, living in this time, to build an astonishing future for our grandchildren and great grandchildren.

There's not much that is more Ordinary than that.

How are you contributing to a just, sustainable, spiritually enriched world? I encourage you to provide a link, in the comments section below, to your blog or web site that shows how you are using your talents and energy to build this exciting future free of greed and suffering. It is important that we recognize our contributions, great and small, and understand how vitally important they are. Nothing we do or say is insignificant. Please share.

Lester R. Brown

In Germany a systematic shift of taxes from labor to energy reduced global warming emissions and created 250,000 jobs.

Imagine what could happen if we took this approach in the United States. To learn just how possible it is, visit the Earth Policy Institute for more information and free full-text copies of Plan B 4.0 and all Earth Policy Institute publications.

Can slow money grow the slow food movement?

Touchy, funny, quirky or cogent, it's the Quote of the Week:

We’re starting with food for a number of reasons. We’re very inspired by the Slow Food movement because it’s a beautiful, cultural, very positive, humanistic approach to a whole bunch of terrible problems. Biodiversity, heirloom plants, indigenous culture, community health—all are addressed very beautifully by Slow Food.
Woody Tasch
as quoted by Brooke Jarvis in
Slow Money: Bringing Money Down to Earth,"
Yes! Magazine

Tasch's foundation, Slow Money turns everything we know about non-profits and funding on its head. In its six Slow Money Principles, the foundation asks,

  • What would the world be like if we invested 50% of our assets within 50 miles of where we live?
  • What if there were a new generation of companies that gave away 50% of their profits?
  • What if there were 50% more organic matter in our soil 50 years from now?

What do you think of the Slow Money Principles and the Slow Money Alliance? Would you sign the principles? If you have investment cash, would you invest there? Your opinions matter and could be helpful to the rest of us figuring out how to live consciously in a more Ordinary way.

Meal-plan our way to world peace?

Touchy, funny, quirky or cogent, it's the Quote of the Week:

Let’s meal-plan our way to world peace.
Abbey Quillan
New Urban Habitat

Meal planning may seem a tad pedestrian as a peace maker, but you'll see why it's one way to lower your carbon footprint and build peace in your life at the same time. Enjoy the layers in Quillan's post, The Art of Meal Planning.
