You may have noticed the Four Years. Go. video and graphic in my sidebar. Curious? The quick and easy way to understand why they’re there is to spend three breathless minutes watching the video, but I’ll tell you why I’m interested in this initiative right now. First, in case you’re wondering, I’m not going to ask you for cash. There is NO appeal for your hard earned money here. Four years. Go. is a good thing for all of us.
Four years. Go. has a mission that will bring us light years closer to the world of Ordinary in just four years. Impossible? So far, nearly three thousand people and almost nine hundred organizations are working every day to make it happen, and that’s just the beginning.
The Vision
To see humanity set on a firm path toward a sustainable, just and fulfilling world by 2014.
The Mission
To bring about a fundamental shift in the direction of humanity, through Inspiring people to act, connecting them with each other and supporting their efforts and successes.
Anyone who reads this blog regularly is already doing the first part of the 4YG mission: Taking action, living consciously. You’ve shown me how you’re doing it through your blogs and through your comments here.
What we get from 4YG: Connection, support
What 4YG brings to our work are those vital second and third elements: Connection and support. It’s so easy to feel insignificant. It is easy to feel that we are just one person, that our singular efforts are lost in the vast commercialism, greed and violence of our culture. That we make no difference.
Four Years. Go. came into being in part to change all that. The very cool thing about 4YG is that we all have the opportunity to invent the organization as it grows. Individuals, like organizations, are invited to jump in, get involved, help shape the initiative, build the connections. Our input—our visions, our needs as change agents in whatever form that change takes, our wisdom and experience in developing strategy, communicating, delivering--are useful at any level we wish to engage.
The organization itself is new, evolving constantly. As one 4YG activist says, “We’re building the airplane while we fly it.”
Why I’m telling you about 4YG
I urge you to check out the 4YG web site and consider doing three things:
- Share your personal next step on the path toward a sustainable, just and fulfilling world by 2014. The link takes you to an interactive map where you can see what people all over the world are sharing. When you’re ready, scroll down to the “Go” button and enter your next step. It only takes a moment.
- Encourage the organizations you support to take advantage of the vision sharing available at 4YG where they can become part of a fast growing alliance, share their success stories and call a vast audience to action almost instantly.
- Tell everyone you know about this amazing initiative and the possibility of building a better world for all of us, for generations to come—a world where the idea of living in harmony with the Earth, her creatures and each other is no longer a vision but fast becoming a very Ordinary reality.
We can do this. Four years. Go.
