Help build a bridge of love to celebrate the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Wikipedia
Tuesday, July 6, is the Dalai Lama's seventy-fifth birthday. To celebrate, Se'Lah of Necessary Room is building a bridge of love, and she needs our help. On Tuesday, she calls on us to perform one random act of kindness. Here, she explains what motivated her:

The depth of suffering endured by people all around the world simply breaks my heart. It is of such an unimaginable proportion that at times, I can literally feel their pain.

She quotes the prayer of her inspiration, His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself:

May I become at all times
Both now and for ever
A protector for the helpless,
A guide for the lost ones,
A ship for those to cross oceans,
And a bridge to cross rivers,
A sanctuary for those in danger,
A lamp for those in darkness,
A refuge for those who need shelter,
A servant to all in need.
Dalai Lama

If you are in need today, may you receive such succor.

Can you help build the bridge of love?

Join the celebration! Do a random act of kindness and post it somewhere--on your own blog, on Se'lah's, in the comments below, on Twitter (the hashtag is #BridgeofLove), wherever you network. Sure, it's only one act of kindness on one day, but imagine if millions do just one that day. What good might follow?

If you are the recipient of a random of act of kindness on July 6, please tell about it one way or another, and come back here and let me know too, if you would be so kind. Better still, tell His Holiness about it and wish him a happy birthday.

His is definitely a life to celebrate, and with as much kindness and compassion as possible.

Lovely. I'll do it.

He is such an amazing inspiration. I was incredibly lucky and managed to see him at Stanford a half dozen years ago - all I can say is "amazing." entirely unselfconscious, entirely engaged - when he was engaged. wanders a bit like we all to, but without pretense. Just watching him was a lesson in "being."

Se'lah, I've been most encouraged by all the responses on your blog posts about the birthday celebration. Looking forward to discovering what comes of it.

Deb, exactly.

Hayden, there are few "famous" people I am willing to brave crowds for, but he is one, just to witness those smiles in person.
